Current Projects
DPWavesProc
- A doppler profiler waves processing toolbox for the Nortek AWAC and RDI ADCP
- Designed to allow users to create directional wave spectra from the raw binary wave data collected by the instruments
- Preliminary testing shows that spectral output compares favorably with proprietary software options
- Added benefits include increased flexibility with data and code and transparency of the data processing procedure
- The newest version of the code and documentation can be found here
Nearshore Processes and Beach Hazard Study
- A pilot field program for Summer 2008 at Kill Devil Hills, NC
- Joint project with the Army Corps of Engineers, the Coastal Studies Institute and Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue
- Goal is to better understand the impacts of nearshore bathymetry and the directional wave field on surf zone processes
- Emphasis is placed on potentially dangerous public safety events like rip currents and shorebreak
- The project website can be found here
